Summer Term Newsletter 2014

Dear parents/carers,

We have plenty of events happening this term, so please get your diaries ready!

This year it has been decided that we will be visiting Godstone Farm for our annual event.  The date for this is Friday, 13th June 2014.  If you haven’t returned your reply slip, please do so ASAP.

Our sponsored event this year will be hairy me.  This is where the children grow grass in photo pots of themselves.  The hair (grass) will be measured to see how they grow!  This will be held during the week commencing 2nd June 2014 and the grass will be measured the week commencing 23rd June 2014.  Sponsor forms will be sent out shortly.

Our open evening this year will be held on Friday, 11th July 2014.  This is a great opportunity for you to see your child’s work and speak to their key person. Invitations for this will be given out nearer the time.

If you would like to speak to your child’s key person before open evening you are welcome to make an appointment with them.

Your child’s key person has already given out the ‘My  Unique Story’ document; we encourage all parents/carers to return these as we share these with your child’s future school!

Sports Day will take place on Wednesday, 23rd July 2014.  This is a fun day for ALL the family and picnics will be needed!  Please note, there are NO nursery sessions on this day and children MUST be accompanied by an adult throughout the day.

Donations for the raffle for Sports Day are urgently needed and very much appreciated.

Sports Day Event

The last day of term is Wednesday, 23rd July 2014.

Before the children leave us, we will be supporting their transition into school, talking about the exciting new experience and providing engaging activities that aids this.   For the children who will be attending the Brent School, we will be visiting them during various sessions for an opportunity for them to play for a short period of time.  We often have visits from Teachers from various schools also.

This can often be a time that parents/carers worry about if their child is ready for school.  The learning experience at nursery provides a solid structure for this.  Opportunities for your child to gain independence in their self help skills at home are another way of supporting this transition.  Activities that encourage dressing themselves, putting on their own shoes, washing their hands supports independence and builds upon their self confidence.

Just to remind everyone about being safe in the sun, please ensure that sun cream is applied before children come into nursery and that your child has a sun hat.  These are available to purchase, please just ask.

THIS TERM

The colour we are learning this half term is orange and next half term is brown.  Please encourage your child to look for items that are this colour and bring in for the colour table.  Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name, thank you.

Our theme this half term is favourite stories, such as ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’.  For our plans on this term (that are based around the EYFS stages of learning), please see the notice board, thank you.

Please remember items for our interest table relating to our theme, thank you!

Nursery will be closed during half term, which is Monday, 26th May to Friday, 30th May 2014.

WANTED

Parents and guardians to come and experience nursery life!  Come and see what your child is experiencing at nursery and come and have some fun too!  We desperately need volunteers for our garden, so please get those green fingers at the ready!!!  If any parents have any plants that they can donate, these are gratefully received.

We urgently require clean yoghurt pots and full sized tins (i.e. baked beans/spaghetti tins).

Some years ago we created the settings’ own website and are pleased to announce that the original designers and sponsors of the website have kindly agreed to continue with both the maintenance and the funding of the website for another year, so our gratitude goes to them.

REMINDERS

We would like to remind all parents and guardians to ensure that ALL children are brought to nursery promptly, as it is essential for the children to have the opportunity to participate in all the activities available.

Also, during pick up time, please ensure that all children are collected at the correct times.  Please respect our neighbours and ensure that you park responsibly and considerately.  Nursery parents should NOT park within the school grounds, thank you.

Please also ensure that NO dogs are brought onto the nursery site, as dogs are prohibited by the school and KCC.
